Turkish tea vendor Dogus Cay has selected Krones’ new NitroHotfill line to produce iced teas in consumer-friendly PET containers.
Dogus Cay produces around 35,000t of tea annually in five facilities in Rize. It also operates a packaging plant in Ordu on the Black Sea coast of Turkey.
Krones was earlier selected to trial the previously installed NitroHotfill line at Dogus Cay’s facility in Izmir/Ödemis in order to improve the line’s compressed-air system.
Installed in 2015, the NitroHotfill line was rated at 22,500 containers per hour.
The facility also features a Contiform 3 blow-moulder to allow production of 250 millilitre hotfill PET containers, which weigh 15 grams on ten moulds at a record speed of 2,250 containers per hour and cavity.
Following the trial, Krones upgraded the Contiform 3 which is now saving 44% in compressed-air consumption when compared with previous levels, the company said.
At a calculated machine running time of 6,000 hours per annum, the upgrades are expected to save around €40,000 annually.
Krones said that the NitroHotfill option offers a financially attractive alternative to the conventional hotfill process.
In addition to reducing the material costs, the Krones NitroHotfill process optimizes production costs in the hotfill process.
Additionally, the process allows the use of aluminum moulds as well as dramatically reduces the machine’s compressed-air consumption.
