French biotech company Deinove will collaborate with Processium to develop carotenoid separation and purification techniques at an industrial scale.
Assisted by the French based engineering consultant, Deinove will produce and distribute caotenoid batches to the nutrition, healthcare and cosmetic markets.
According to Deinove, the carorenoid business is likely to generate revenue from 2018.
Deinove CEO Emmanuel Petiot said: “With the benefits of Processium's technical expertise and geographical proximity, DEINOVE is moving forward in its ambition to quickly market its first carotenoids, which should start generating revenue in 2018.
“Like us, Processium works in the chemistry, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics fields and we share the same values and challenges - saving time so we can get our first products to market quickly and optimizing our carotenoid production units in terms of economic and environmental performances.”
Deinove has revealed its intentions of marketing carotenoids in ingredient form directly to industrials based in its target markets.
It has also revealed that it will not establish its own manufacturing facilities for producing the carorenoid ingredient.
Instead, it will have subcontractors to manage the various production stages including large-scale fermentation, extraction, purification and formulation of the ingredient.
Processium will help Deinove in the identification and selection of subcontractors who can start the ingredient production quickly.
Processium CEO Pascal Rousseaux said: “DEINOVE's key expertise in the fermentation, whereas ours comes into play after the fermentation step, when it comes to separate and purify the compound to be sold.
“DEINOVE has reached a milestone, now developing an industrial process based on the production process designed and optimized in the laboratory."
Headquartered in Lyon, Processium will develop and validate an industrial process for the extraction of carotenoids from the fermentation medium to produce a commercial product.
