PDS Received a $549,278 Funding From Government for New Equipment to Expand Efficiency

Canadian food safety organisation Prairie Diagnostic Services (PDS) has received a $549,278 funding from Harper Government to purchase new equipment to expand and modernise its testing efficiency.

This new financial support will help PDS to deliver better service for its customers in the veterinary, livestock and agri-food sectors.

Prairie Diagnostic Services CEO Marilyn Jonas said: "This new equipment allows PDS to enhance our services to Western Canadian veterinarians, grain and forage producers, and the food processing industry.

"We see this as important for our individual clients and as a key component in our broader role as a leading laboratory for animal disease detection and food safety in Western Canada."

The new toxicology equipment will support the organisation to enhance feed testing through the expansion of its ergot and mycotoxin testing in grain samples.

PDS is currently participating in surveillance studies to identify areas affected by these toxins in Western Canada.

It supports country's agriculture and food sectors through proactive diagnostic services in support of disease detection, disease surveillance, and food safety monitoring.

The present funding is delivered through the Western Diversification Program (WDP).
