Driven by a requirement to store e-mail correspondence in an electronic day file, Cystic Fibrosis Trust has implemented CommVault Simpana file and e-mail archiving software.
The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the UK's only national charity dealing with all aspects of cystic fibrosis. It funds research to treat and improve the lives of people living with cystic fibrosis and aims to ensure appropriate clinical care, advocacy and support for people with cystic fibrosis.
The Cystic Fibrosis Trust found that restoring backups was near impossible on its previous system, due to the sheer volume of data it kept. The system allows the trust to store all documents in one place, Peter Hawkins, IT manager for The Cystic Fibrosis Trust explained.
Hawkins said: "With Simpana software, we've achieved some pretty significant storage and efficiency gains, which help us demonstrate both IT and business value in terms of improved IT operations and enhanced end user access to business-critical information."
In fact, storage at The Cystic Fibrosis Trust grows at 3-5% per year, compared to the industry average of 35%.
CommVault is being used to back up Exchange 2008, SharePoint, SQL Server, Windows Active Directory and the trust's file server.
Working with CommVault reseller, Pav IT, Cystic Fibrosis Trust is now upgrading its SAN to prepare for a migration of 75 desktops from Windows XP to 64-bit Windows 7 running on VMware Views.
