Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles (MREVPL), the manufacturing arm of Indian auto maker Mahindra & Mahindra, has launched the new electric vehicle (EV) e2o.
The EV is powered by Lithium Ion batteries that have a range of 100km per charge, and can be recharged using a 15A plug point.
Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles chairman Pawan Goenka said EV's always had the potential to emerge as an alternative to fossil fuel driven vehicles.
"With the Mahindra e2o we have taken the lead in not only creating a comprehensive ecosystem to nurture sustainable mobility solutions, but have also firmly placed a choice in the hands of our consumers," Goenka said.
Additionally, the new vehicle is also expected to have a provision to recharge using solar energy through the 'Sun2Car' system.
Production of the new vehicle will be carried out at Mahindra Reva's Bengaluru plant, which has the capacity of producing 30,000 cars per year.
The new EV will go on sale immediately at select Mahindra dealerships nationwide in a phased manner at a price of Rs596,000 ($10956).
