Japanese automotive firm Mitsubishi Motors plans to produce its ASX compact SUV (also called RVR or Outlander Sport) in Malaysia for sale in the local market.
This move of the company is aimed at expanding its presence and increasing operations in the passenger vehicles segment in Malaysia.
The company expects to increase the sales of its ASX model in the country with the built-in-Malaysia model.
The vehicles are, currently, imported and sold by Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM), a distributor of MMC.
Tan Chong Motor Assemblies, a subsidiary of Tan Chong Motor Holdings, will start the production of the ASX vehicles in collaboration with MMC and MMM from January 2014.
The locally produced vehicles will be introduced in the market for sale in February 2014.
MMC plans to expand its base in the Malaysian market by introducing more locally-produced models.
