Volvo Will Double The Production of V60 Plug-in Hybrid

Swedish car manufacturer Volvo Car is planning to almost double the production of its V60 diesel Plug-in Hybrid by 90%, in a bid to cope up with the demand.

The carmaker will now increase the production of the hybrid at its Torslanda plant in Sweden from 150 to 282 units per week, which would increase the overall manufacturing capacity to 7,600 plug-in hybrids in 2013, and about 10,000 units in 2014.

Volvo Car Group Research and Development senior vice president Peter Mertens said the V60 Plug-in Hybrid is received well by consumers.

"Since the Plug-in Hybrid has been integrated into the established production flow together with other car models, we have the flexibility to quickly adapt to the increasing demand," Mertens said.

The hybrid allows selecting the required driving modes including Pure, Hybrid or Power via three buttons in the dashboard that gives the car three different temperaments.

Additionally, the hybrid allows driving up to 50km on pure electric power or drivers can use the combined capacity of the diesel engine and electric motor that generate a total output of 285hp and 600Nm of torque.
