Electric Bus Is Equipped with Extended Range Battery System

Zero-emission vehicle maker Proterra has announced an extended range battery system for its electric bus.

Proterra Launches Extended Range Battery System for Electric Bus

With the launch of the TerraVolt XR extended-range battery, the buses can be configured to travel up to 180 miles between charges.

The latest high energy density battery also complements the existing TerraVolt FC fast-charge battery.

The two battery packs are crucial elements of the company's TerraFlex energy system, and can be used interchangeably in the Catalyst vehicle platform.

The TerraFlex energy system is designed in a way that consumers can select the right amount and kind of energy storage in order to meet the requirements of specific routes.

Moreover, operators can reconfigure the battery packs to meet the changing service requirements.

TerraVolt XR and the new TerraVolt FC are also compatible with Proterra's on-route and in-depot chargers.

Proterra sales and marketing vice president Matt Horton said: "Operating successfully in cities across the country, the Proterra Catalyst is the most energy-efficient transit bus on the market.

"Adding extended-range capabilities to our existing portfolio of fast-charge products, enables us to help our customers meet more of their most demanding service requirements.

"The flexibility of our platform allows our customers to more confidently invest in the future of transit."

According to Proterra, the extended-range Catalyst XR can be recharged almost in an hour.
