Barclays Pingit has been named in the App Store Best of 2012 list in the UK by Apple.
The ground-breaking mobile payments app was selected from thousands in the Apple store for recognition in the awards' 'Disruptive Services' section, which showcases those apps that are changing the rules and redefining industries by offering exciting and entirely new solutions.
Barclays Pingit takes mobile banking to a new level by letting users make payments to people and businesses using just the recipient's phone number.
Anyone aged 16 or over with a UK current account, a UK mobile number and smartphone can download the Barclays Pingit app and have mobile money when they want it. They can make payments just by keying in a phone number or code, by scanning a QR Code or selecting the details from an integrated suppliers directory.
Sending money is secure and instant. Users don't even need to bank with Barclays - they can set up a Mobile Wallet and keep it topped up with funds as they need them.
Barclays Pingit is free to download and use, with over 1 million users registered by December 2012. It's proving popular with businesses too - by making buying easier than ever, it can be a big help in building sales.
