Jeep CEO Mike Manley has announced a plan to start production of its Cherokee SUV in China and increase the dealership in the country by a third by the end of 2015.
The company is reportedly trying to expand outside North America in an attempt to increase sales to 1.9 million cars by 2018.
According to the automaker, sales of its vehicles have increased more than four fold since 2009 due to rise in demand for SUVs, and acceptance of its new products in the market.
Jeep is also planning to produce smaller model of smaller Renegade in China, and the company will commence the production of Renegade in Brazil next month.
Bloomberg cited Manley as saying: "Getting the launch of China right is very, very important as it is one of the major cornerstones to get to the 1.9 million target."
