Xanofi, a nanotechnology company specialising in nanofibre applications, has introduced a new platform for nanofibre production – the XanoShear™machine.
The company says that the first production unit is now fully operational and currently being optimised for high yield production.
According to Xanofi, the machine is a unique high yield, liquid-based platform for nanofibre production – a radical departure from the previous production methods of meltblowing and electrospinning. The key to XanoShear™ is liquid. While other technologies produce dry, continuous fibres, XanoShear™ produces staple fibres that can disperse in water and integrate into existing production environments. The company has successfully produced products via wet lay manufacturing and is developing both wet and dry spraying capabilities. Several applications in filtration have already successfully incorporated nanofibres using XanoShear.
Xanofi adds that the XanoShear platform also has many other advantages – high scalability, ability to functionalise fibres at full production speeds with particles or coatings, and a closed system that uses less energy without the discharge of any materials into the environment for 'green' manufacturing.
Miles Wright, chief executive officer of Xanofi added: "Until today, the nanofibre industry only had two platforms for nanofibre production, meltblowing and electrospinning. Today the world has an exciting new choice - XanoShear - that opens up new applications for nanofibres and achieves new financial metrics for products.
