Jan K Overweel Recalls Cheese as They May Be Contaminated with Listeria Monocytogenes

Canadian establishment Jan K Overweel is voluntarily recalling Ballarini brand Gorgonzola cheese products as they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).

The products associated with the recall include, Ballarini 4 x 1.5kg Gorgonzola D.O.P. Cremaverde with UPC code that starts with 2724118 and 150g Gorgonzola Dolce DOP bearing UPC code 8021398301540, with Best Before dates 17 October 2013, 16 November 2013 and 04 September 2013, 08 October 2013 respectively.

These recalled products have been distributed across the nation through retail stores. CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall, which is classified as Class 1 health hazard.

No illnesses have been reported associated with the recall.

Consumers are advised to contact the retailer to determine if they have the affected products.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause illness in certain groups of people, including pregnant women, unborn and newborn babies, and anyone with reduced immunity, particularly the over-60s.
