BMW and Volkswagen Plan to Sell Upgraded Car Models in India

Automotive giants BMW and Volkswagen are set to sell upgraded car models in India to take advantage of the estimated rise in demand in the festive season.

The new launches from the two automakers come at the time when The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers announced the potential revival of country's auto market soon, reported The Wall Street Journal.

BMW has introduced its 5 Series sedan vehicle in four variants comprising eight-speed automatic transmission, with the cheapest variant costing about INR4.69m ($76,362) and the top-end version to be available for INR5.79m ($94,272).

Powered by 2-l or 3-l diesel engine, the upgraded version is equipped with attention assist, active headrests, dynamic stability control (DSC) with dynamic traction control (DTC) as well as side-impact protection.

On the other hand, Volkswagen has begun selling its Vento compact car, powered by a 1.2-l turbocharged gasoline engine, and has seven-speed automatic transmission. The car costs INR999,000 ($16,265).
