General Motors Has Recalled About 34,000 Vehicles Over a Software Problem in The Transmiss

US-based automobile manufacturer General Motors has recalled about 34,000 vehicles over a software problem in the transmission.

The recall affects 2013 model year Cadillac SRX vehicles that were manufactured from 29 May 2012 to 18 February 2013 and the Buick LaCrosse sedans manufactured from 25 April 2012 to 05 March 2013.

About 27,000 units of the recalled vehicles were sold in the US, 1,300 of the vehicles are recalled from Canada, while the remaining vehicles were sold in Mexico, the Middle East and China.

The software glitch in the vehicles may cause the transmission to accidentally shift from manual to Sport or automatic mode causing the removal of transmission-related engine braking that increases the risk of a vehicle crash.

Problem in the vehicles was discovered by the company in January 2013 while working on a 2014 Cadillac SRX engineering development vehicle, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The company said no cases of crashes or injuries related to the problem have been reported and the problem does not affect 2014 models of the vehicles.
