Australia Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) has released its July 2013 VFACTS data reporting that the sales of passenger cars, SUVs and commercial vehicles has increased to 90,235 in July 2013, up by 4.1%, compared to 86,641 vehicles in the same period in 2012.
However, the sales declined in July 2013 compared to the sales of 118,758 in June 2013.
VFACTS data also shows that year-to-date sales were up by 4.6% compared to the same period last year.
FCAI chief executive Tony Weber said that the recent fringe benefits tax (FBT) announcement by the Australian Government has shown a great impact on the sales.
"The full impact; however, will take some time to completely work its way through the sales figures," Weber added.
"Even though sales were at an all-time high for a July, we had good reason to expect them to be even higher given our members' tracking of the market in the first half of the month."
According to the report, the sales of locally manufactured vehicles in July 2013 have increased by 4.8 compared to the same period in 2012.
FCAI claims that the sales will decline further, if the Government's recent change to FBT on cars is legislated.
