General Motor Plans to Expand US Car Assembly Factory by 0.6 Billion Dollars

General Motor (GM) announced a few days ago, they will invest 0.6 billion dollars to the Fairfax assembly factory, Kansas City, US, in order to upgrade the equipment and build a new painting workshop.

GM once announced that they will invest 1.5 billion dollars to North America in 2013, and expanding Fairfax factory this time belongs to one part of the investment projects above. GM will build a 450,000 square feet painting workshop, install a new punch and upgrade other equipment.

Fairfax factory has 3,900 staff, and produced 2.83 million cars totally last year, up 14% on the basis of 2.79 million in 2011.

GM expressed that Fairfax factory’s extension activities will start from late in 2013 and it will not affect the factory’s production operations.

Dan Ai Kesen, CEO of GM, didn’t reveal that whether this factory will produce a new car or not. He only expressed that GM invest a large amount of money to the factory didn’t only aim to maintain current status. In addition, he also mentioned that GM will publish the fourth quarter of 2012 financial report next month.
