German sports car manufacturer Porsche is set to inaugurate its new EUR500m assembly plant in Leipzig, Germany on 11 February 2014.
Porsche will manufacture its new Macan model, which was launched on 20 November 2013.
Macan is a crossover utility vehicle and is the automaker's fifth model line and first entry in the compact sports utility vehicle (SUV) segment.
The carmaker expects to produce 50,000 Macans annually at the new plant. The plant will create more than 1,500 new jobs in the region.
Porsche also has a plant in Leipzig, which will manufacture its electric car models i3 and i8 starting from Autumn 2014.
Meanwhile, Porsche Cars North America, a US-based importer of Porsche sports cars, has reported the sale of 42,323 cars in 2013, up 21%, compared to same period in 2012.
For December 2013, Porsche posted sales of 3,246 cars, an increase of 10% over the December sales in 2012.
