German carmaker BMW has unveiled the new X5 eDrive hybrid concept sport utility vehicle (SUV) prior to its global debut at the upcoming Frankfurt International Motor Show (IAA) to be held during September 2013.
The new concept is powered by plug-in hybrid drivetrain, which includes a combination of a four-cylinder TwinPower Turbo charged combustion engine and an electric motor.
The X5 eDrive's electric motor, which alone generates an output of 95hp, is powered by a lithium-ion battery that allows travelling about 30km only on electric power and it can be charged using any domestic power socket.
According to the carmaker, the electric motor allows the hybrid SUV concept to achieve a top speed of 120 km/h, while accelerating from 0-100km/h in under 7.0 seconds.
Offering a fuel consumption of 74.3mpg on the EU Combined cycle, the BMW Concept X5 eDrive also comes with default ECO PRO mode, which can be activated via the 'driving experience control' switch.
The concept's hybrid-specific 'proactive driving assistant', together with the navigation system, offers drivers with route profile, speed restrictions and the traffic situation into the driving mode selection.
BMW will also debut its models including i3, Active Tourer Outdoor concept , 4-series coupe, revamped 5-series, and the new X5, alongside the X5 eDrive hybrid SUV concept at the show.
