80 Mercedes-Benz Buses Are Provided by Daimler in Brazil

German automobile manufacturer Daimler's subsidiary Mercedes-Benz do Brasil has secured a contract to deliver 80 Mercedes-Benz buses in Brazil.

Under the contract, Mercedes-Benz do Brasil will supply 50 units of the OF 1721model buses to the public transport company Rodoviaria Caxanga of Olinda City in northeastern Brazil.

The contract also includes the already delivered 30 units of the Type O500 buses, which are operated by public transport company VIP Transportes Urbano in the Sao Paulo region of Brazil.

Daimler Buses head Hartmut Schick said, "The BRT market penetration with Mercedes-Benz urban buses is about 70% in Brazil."

The manufacturer will supply 23m long, four-axle articulated buses that are claimed to offer transport capacity of 200 passengers.

As part of the contract, the buses will be equipped with BlueTec 5-technology and meet the PROCONVE P-7 exhaust standard.

In 2012, the company had supplied over 520 urban buses to Fortaleza and Riberao Preto, while Rio de Janeiro received over 90 articulated buses in June.
