Haribo Is Constructing a New £92m Production Facility in Castleford

Haribo, a Germany-based confectionery manufacturer, is constructing a new £92m production facility in Castleford, England, a move which will create 286 jobs.

The 30,700m2 plant will compliment Haribo's existing facility in Pontefract West Yorkshire and will have an annual capacity of 48,000 tons, producing Tangfastics and Starmix items.

Construction on the facility is expected to be completed by April 2015 with the first two production lines fully operational later in the same year.

Haribo UK managing director Herwig Vennekens said, "This investment in a new facility will enhance Haribo's production capabilities and help us to meet the growing demand for our products.

"Our existing factory [in Pontefract] is near capacity and so this new site will allow for progressive expansion, enabling us to continue to extend our offering and to develop new and innovative products," Vennekens added.

The company has received £6.4m from the government's Regional Growth Fund (RGF) for the project.
