Ben & Jerry's Recalls Four Batches of Cookie Dough Ice Cream Tubs

Ice cream maker Ben & Jerry's has issued a recall for its cookie dough ice cream amid doubts over possible presence of contain small pieces of metal.

The company has asked some of its consumers who purchased 500ml cartons of Cookie Dough to avoid eating them.

The recall has been issued for four different batches of the ice cream which may be contaminated by metal pieces.

The batch codes of the recalled products include L62110L011, L62111L011, L62112L011 and L62113L011. The codes are printed on the bottom of the pots.

 The company has issued "important safety notice" after an internal quality control checks found a possibility of contamination in limited number of products, BBC reported.

Ben & Jerry's was quoted by the publication as saying: "The company has identified a specific production period during which Ben & Jerry's Cookie Dough 500ml may have been affected and, as safety remains a top priority, Ben & Jerry's is voluntarily recalling four batch codes of Cookie Dough 500ml from sale.

"As a precaution, everyone with a 500ml tub of Ben & Jerry's Cookie Dough in their freezers at home should check the batch number on the bottom of their tub to make sure it's not affected.

"And, if it matches the batch numbers listed above, they should not eat the product and, instead, we ask them to discard the product in the usual household bin."

In June 2012, Unilever, a Dutch multinational consumer goods company, had issued a voluntary recall for pints of its Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Nougat Crunch Ice Cream manufactured in the US, as the products contained peanuts or tree nuts that were not mentioned on the ingredient label.
