Canadian manufacturer of green packaging and tissue paper products Cascades has announced that the company will not proceed with the closure of its Norampac containerboard mill in Trenton, Ontario, as planned and announced in April 2012.
The company has announced the move, further to a vote by a significant majority of employees in favor of its final offer.
Norampac president and chief executive officer Marc-André Dépin said the company is saving 130 jobs in the community and avoiding significant financial losses for the local forest industry by keeping the mill open.
"The challenges faced by this mill are by no means over. However, reaching this agreement with our employees is a vital pre-condition, and we can now concentrate on identifying an action plan for achieving long-term viability," Dépin added.
Cascades' Norampac-Trenton facility, which has a production capacity of 150,000mt, produces corrugating medium.
