South Africa-based SurePure, which is involved in turbid liquid photopurification, has agreed to use its patented photopurification technology in Northern India.
This is aimed to deliver safe, high quality milk along with enhancing the livelihood of local dairy farmers.
The new development is part of an initiative called "Mindful Milk," which is led by Abhijit Maid, and supported by Pankaj Uttarwar and Albert Straus of Straus Family Creamery based in Petaluma, California.
Straus Family Creamery Research & Development director Pankaj Uttarwar said: "we are proud to have worked with Abhijit Maid to develop a model that advances more sustainable dairy farming in northern India.
"SurePure's technology is enabling us to implement this model in remote and developing areas. We hope that this model can be replicated elsewhere to increase the well-being of farmers and consumers alike."
As part of this project, more sanitary milking and handling processes will be implemented in rural Northern India along with the creation of a direct-to-consumer sales model.
