American automotive parts supplier Johnson Controls has expanded its presence in China with the opening of a new automotive battery manufacturing plant in Chongqing City with an investment of $154m.
The new plant is claimed to have a production capacity of six million automotive batteries per year in China, where 22 million new vehicles are produced annually.
Located in Fuling District of Chongqing, the new 133,000m2 facility was built with the industry's leading sustainability and environmental standards, and will offer new technology and services to customers.
Johnson Controls Power Solutions China vice president and general manager Kenneth Yeng said the facility will not only enable the company to meet increasing demand from customers in China, but will also allow it to demonstrate leadership in technology and sustainability.
"We appreciate the support from the Chongqing and Fuling governments, and we look forward to contributing more to the development of the local economy as well as to the local community," Yeng added.
Johnson Controls expects to create over 500 jobs at the new plant in Chongqing after it reaches its full production capacity.
Headquartered in Shanghai, Johnson Controls currently offers technology and services to customers in over 150 countries.
