Mercedes-Benz has started production of GLE Coupé at its plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, US.
The GLE Coupé is a new series of Mercedes-Benz that incorporates characteristics of a coupé with SUV.
The company said it will revamp majority of its SUV portfolio this year, including the model update of the former M-Class, GLE.
Established in 1995, Mercedes-Benz US International plant produces GLE and GL and C-Class sedan models.
The company has moved R-Class vehicles production to Mishawaka, Indiana-based contract manufacturer AM-General.
Mercedes-Benz Cars production and supply chain management and divisional board of management member Markus Schifer said: "As part of our growth strategy, we are expanding our global production network and use additional capacities of our contract manufacturers as well.
"Our global production standards guarantee the world-renowned high quality of our Mercedes Benz vehicles, independent of their production site."
Mercedes-Benz has so far invested $4.5bn in Tuscaloosa operations, which produced more than 232,000 vehicles in 2014.
The company expects to produce 300,000 vehicles in Tuscaloosa this year, including the C Class.
