Hanesbrands Donates Apparel to East Coast Victims of Hurricane and Superstorm Sandy

HanesBrands announced that it is making an initial donation of three tractor-trailer loads of underwear and fleece apparel to East Coast victims of Hurricane and Superstorm Sandy.

Hanes, which has a manufacturing plant in Dover, Del., two design centers in New York City, and numerous outlet stores in the region, is partnering with Fashion Delivers, a New York-based nonprofit organization that distributes apparel and home furnishings to victims of natural disasters around the world. The company has donated $1 million worth of Hanes and Champion fleece sweatshirts and sweatpants and women's and men's underwear that Fashion Delivers will distribute in the region.

"Hanes and its employees offer their deepest sympathy to those whose lives have been impacted as a result of Sandy," said Chris Fox, the company's vice president of corporate social responsibility. "Our employees along the East Coast are safe and sound, but we know that many others are in desperate need of help. We are working diligently to deploy much-needed clothing essentials to individuals and families in need on the East Coast and beyond."

Dozens of people have lost their lives while thousands have been displaced from their homes, lost their possessions and belongings or are dealing with a lack of services, including power and transportation.

"We will continue to work with Fashion Delivers to assess needs and send additional apparel donations in the coming weeks as needed," Fox said. "Hanes is committed to doing all it can to support those enduring this tragedy."

The company has previously partnered with Fashion Delivers to provide needed basic clothing following the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, the 2011 tsunami and earthquake in Japan, and the 2011 tornadoes in the Midwest and Southeast United States.

HanesBrands is a socially responsible leading marketer of everyday basic apparel under some of the world's strongest apparel brands, including Hanes, Champion, Playtex, Bali, JMS/Just My Size, barely there, Wonderbra and Gear For Sports. The company sells T-shirts, bras, panties, men's underwear, children's underwear, socks, hosiery, casualwear and activewear produced in the company's low-cost global supply chain.
