Heavy-duty transit bus manufacturer New Flyer has secured a contract to deliver 265 buses to the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), Georgia in the US.
Out of the 265 buses, the contract contains firm order of eight low floor restyled (LFR) CNG 30ft buses and 80 units of Xcelsior CNG 40ft buses along with an option for an additional 177 Xcelsior CNG or hybrid 40ft buses to be exercised in the future.
The 88 buses related to the firm order are expected to start production in the second quarter of 2013 and are expected to be delivered by the fourth quarter of 2013.
MARTA chief operations officer Rich Krisak said that the city authority is excited to bring the New Flyer buses on board to improve services offered to its customers.
"These buses, which will replace vehicles that have reached retirement age, are equipped with advanced technology to provide an overall better, more reliable transit experience," Krisak added.
Since 1990, New Flyer has manufactured and delivered 926 buses for MARTA having different models, lengths and propulsions, out of which the majority of the vehicles are powered by CNG.
