Magna Has Set up a New Engine Manufacturing Facility at The Tianjin in China

Global automotive supplier Magna International's subsidiary Magna Powertrain has established a new engine manufacturing facility at the Tianjin Airport Economic Area in China.

The new facility, which has a footprint of about 13,500sqm, will initially oversee the production of rear axle drive modules and power take-off units for locally assembled Volkswagen and Audi models in China.

Magna Powertrain president Jake Hirsch said the new facility will serve both current and future automotive customers in the Chinese market.

"As our customers continue to expand their global manufacturing footprint, they expect suppliers like Magna to be there to support them," Hirsch said.

The new plant is Magna Powertrain's sixth location in China, which follows the opening of first operation in Changzhou in 2005 and also represents the supplier's 26th manufacturing facility in the country.

The automotive supplier plans to employ about 400 people at the plant.
