UPS Has Added 100 Electric Commercial Vehicles to Its Fleet in California

US-based United Parcel Service (UPS) has added 100 electric commercial vehicles to its fleet in California to deliver packages in the state.

The company expects to reduce the motor fuel consumption by about 126,000 gallons annually with the electric vehicles (EV).

UPS US operations president Myron Gray said that the company operates over 2,500 alternative fuel vehicles worldwide with a variety of hybrid, electric and natural gas technologies.

"We use our technology and logistics expertise to reduce emissions around the world and help test new automotive technologies," Gray added.

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Pacific Southwest regional administrator Jared Blumenfeld said: "EPA's funding of these electric delivery trucks highlights our commitment to the rapid deployment of electric vehicles as a means of cleaning the air, creating jobs and spurring innovation."

The Electric Vehicles International (EVI) manufactured the vehicles for the company in Stockton, California.
