Despite minor reductions in demand in the fourth quarter of 2012, oak sawmills appear to be generally satisfied with business last year as a whole. Demand also picked up in January. The slightly lower sales generated at the end of the year were thus able to be compensated for at least in part. Sawmills in Germany registered adequate receipts of orders again in January, especially for the better grades suitable for the furniture industry’s supply sector and for the timber trade. On the basis of the negotiations conducted with value-adders in Germany so far, it looks as if last year’s level can be matched.
