GM to Invest $185m for The Production of Small Gas Engines

General Motors (GM) is planning to invest $185m for the production of small gas engines at the Spring Hill car plant in Tennessee, US.

GM is planning to launch "Ecotec" engine family for 27 models across five of its brands by 2017, and the new engine will add to the company's energy efficient technology portfolio.

GM's already has 11 engines hybrid engines that can produce 75 horsepower to 165 horsepower.

The company is focusing on efficient engines to meet the stringent emission standards in the US.

The Spring Hill factory is already producing 2.0 liters to 2.5 liter engines that powers Chevrolet's Malibu and Impala sedans.

According to reports from autonews, the company could relocate the production of the next-generation Cadillac SRX to that factory from a facility in Mexico.
