The new V6 diesel powertrain is available in two variants that produce outputs of 160kW and 200kW along with a peak torque of 600Nm.

The new engine is claimed to be more powerful than its predecessor and about 13% efficient depending on the model.

Audi Management Board chairman Rupert Stadler said TDI engines are a central part of the company's technology mix for the mobility of tomorrow.

"We have continued to perfect this technology over several decades and believe there is still potential for increasingy efficiency in the future too," Stadler added.

Audi V6 TDI features a 90-degree cylinder bank angle and a displacement of 2,967cc along with improved piston rings and pins to offer minimal friction, newly designed cylinder heads with separate coolant loops and a new thermal management system.

The engine also includes an improved turbocharger, variable-load oil pump and a NOx storage catalytic converter, which is the first to be combined with a diesel particulate filter and SCR injection in an assembly.

Additionally, Audi will present a new S tronic seven-speed dual-clutch transmission for models with longitudinal engines and front-wheel drive at the symposium that offers better efficiency and reduced CO2 emissions.
