Carmaker Nissan has begun the field tests of the pure electric e-NV200 compact van in Saitama City of Saitama Prefecture in Japan.
The tests are part of the agreement signed between Saitama City and Nissan for the E-KIZUNA Project in 2009 that promotes usage of electric vehicles (EV) to reduce global warming and carbon emissions.
Testing of the vehicle is being done on the routes between Saitama City Hall and other municipal offices by conducting regular business activities.
The vehicle is to be assessed for environmental-friendliness, usability and economy and the results are claimed to be used by the company for further development of the vehicles.
According to the carmaker, the city aims to implement sustainable transportation systems by promoting the adoption of EVs.
Since 2011, Nissan has collaborated with many major companies for conducting tests including AEONMALL and Coca-Cola Central in Japan, British Gas in Europe and FedEx Express in Singapore.
