OTC Vaginal Infection Screening Test Has Been Introduced by Paladin Labs in Canada

Canada-based Paladin Labs has introduced a self diagnostic test, designed for the detection of bacterial vaginosis and trichomoniasis, in Canada.

The VagiSense test, which the company claims to be the Canada''s only over-the-counter vaginal infection screening test, reacts to vaginal pH and buffer capacity and help women to differentiate between a possible vaginal yeast infection and a bacterial/parasitic infection in 10 seconds.

The test is intended for women of menstruating age who have any of the following symptoms including vaginal itching or burning, abnormal vaginal discharge colour or odour, or excessive discharge, according to the company.

Paladin Labs interim president and chief executive officer Mark Beaudet said, "Proper diagnosis is the first step to quick relief and we believe VagiSense will play an important role in guiding and reassuring Canadian women in their diagnosis of vaginitis."

The company said it has obtained the exclusive rights to market and sell VagiSense in Canada, Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa from Common Sense in August 2011.
