Grocery Sales in Ireland Remain Under Pressure,with The Decline in Sales Accelerating

Grocery sales in Ireland remain under pressure, with the decline in sales accelerating, data from Kantar Worldpanel has shown.

Sales fell 0.5% in the 12 weeks to 10 June, figures released yesterday (25 June) said. Last month, Kantar said grocery sales for the 12 weeks ending 13 May declined 0.2%.

However, some retailers are making strides. Tesco, the largest retailer in Ireland, increased its sales by 2.8%, taking its market share to 28.6%, the latest Kantar data reveals. Supervalu saw its sales increase 1.1%, while Lidl's market share reached 6.5% after its sales grew 2.8%.

On the flip side, Dunnes, Tesco's nearest competitor in Ireland, saw it sales fall 5%. In the 12 weeks to 13 May, Dunnes sales had slid 5.8%.
