US-based establishment Heeren Brothers Produce is recalling around 5,400 cantaloupes as they may have been contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, according to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The produce associated with the recall is Athena Cantaloupes, which was distributed to small, independent grocers across Michigan between 23 July 2013 and 26 July 2013.
This recall was initiated after the FDA discovered the presence of Listeria in cantaloupes during a routine sampling.
No illnesses have been reported associated with the recall. No other Heeren Brothers' products are affected by the recall.
Consumers who have purchased the recalled produce are advised not to consume and discard them.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause illness in certain groups of people, including pregnant women, unborn and newborn babies, and anyone with reduced immunity, particularly the over-60s.
