The facility, which is spread over an area of around 200,000ft02, will see around $30m in investment for improvements over the next 12 months.

Upon completion of the improvements, the facility will be capable of producing close to 200 million pounds of turkey products annually.

Butterball president and CEO Kerry Doughty said: "We are extremely excited to expand Butterball's further processing operations in Raeford, N.C., and for the opportunity to further strengthen our ties with the community."

The acquisition is expected to create more than 200 local jobs initially, and more than 360 jobs over the next three years.

Butterball already employs around 200 people in its hatchery operations and Western Breeder Division in Raeford.

At present, the company operates six processing plants across North Carolina, Arkansas, Illinois and Missouri and uses several processes to ensure the health of flocks and implements recognized prevention measures to exceed food safety standards.

The company produces over one billion pounds of turkey each year. Its products are distributed in the US and in over 45 countries.
