Teys Australia Is Evaluating The Closure of Its Meat Processing Facility in Beenleigh

Teys Australia is evaluating the closure of its meat processing facility in Beenleigh, Queensland, a move which will lead to 800 job losses.

The company's announcement comes after the Australasian Meat Industry Employees Union (AMIEU) refused Teys' 3% wage offer. The union had refused to allow the execution of a secret ballot.

Teys corporate affairs general manager Tom Maguire said that the company expects direct interaction with workforce could overturn the union's refusal to allow the secret ballot to take place.

Teys Australia stated that it would make a decision on the closure of its Beenleigh plant by mid-August.

The closure will not affect the company's five other operations across Australia including two in central Queensland at Biloela and Rockhampton.

Teys Australia is 50/50 partnership between the Teys family and US agribusiness firm Cargill. The company operates six beef processing plants across Australia in Naracoorte, Wagga Wagga, Tamworth, Beenleigh, Rockhampton and Biloela.
