Toyota has commenced production of its first hydrogen fuel cell vehicle (FCV) dubbed Mirai at the company’s Motomachi Plant in Toyota City, Japan.
The car is a four-door mid-size sedan capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph in 9.0 seconds.
It features a fuel cell stack that provides 3.1 kilowatts of electricity per liter of fuel, and allows the electric engine to produce 153hp and 247 foot-pounds of torque.
The Mirai's carbon-fiber fuel tanks can be filled in about five minutes with a pressurized hose just like any other gasoline powered car, reported ComputerWorld.
According to Toyota, three units of the new Mirai will come out of the Motomachi Plant every day.
The plant started as a passenger car production facility in 1959 and produced Toyota's other flagships including "Publica", "Corona", "Cresta", "Soarer".
Toyota is facilitating lease option for those who are looking for options at $499 per month for 36 months, and with the US federal incentives the car's purchase price could go down to $45,000.
