In 2007 writer Jeff Giles closed shop on his Jefitoblog site. The website had amassed a loyal following and several cohorts across the Internet including his partner-in-Mellowmas-torture Jason Hare. Giles' big plan was to gather up such individuals, provide a place to allow their individual personalities to roam, and then let them loose. That plan came together in 2008 with the introduction of pop culture website Popdose.com, and at the start of its fifth anniversary the site is growing stronger than ever.
In the past five years, Popdose.com has provided analysis on all things pop culture, from music and movies to overly-sugared breakfast cereals and a mascot from a popular television commercial series. They've spoken with stars of stage, screen, and popular music, hosted a mini-series written by a prominent music producer, and interviewed an up-and-coming singer/songwriter posing as a deceased sitcom star. In other words, Popdose.com attacks subjects like no other site, with affection, irreverence, and a singular personality unlike any other on-line.
The writers have proven again and again that they know and love the topics they write about, and are equally adept at taking on the subjects that do not speak to them. Some of the most heartfelt, angry, and pointed commentary about the world and its times appeared on the Popdose.com page.
Moving into the future Popdose.com is expanding with new and continuing podcasts, columns that have become old favorites continue in force as others from the site's past return revitalized. There are also plenty of surprises in the works. Senior Associate Editor Dw Dunphy said of the impending additions, "A lot has been based on feedback of the readers. It is gratifying to read just how much of a connection these columns have made for, and meant to them."
When asked about some of the "secret surprises" that would greet visitors to Popdose.com in the new year, Dunphy replied, "That would spoil the fun. It's important that people check us out on a regular basis. They'll be glad they did."
