The Power Solutions International (PSI) 8.8L natural gas engine will come with Quantum's compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel system and will be made available in naturally aspirated and turbocharged variants.

Both the engines are designed for the Class 4-6 trucks, while the turbocharged version of the engine is claimed to generate output of 350hp and 660lbft of torque, while the naturally aspirated variant generates an output of 250hp and 500lbft of torque.

Power Solutions International CEO Gary Winemaster said that the medium-duty truck manufacturers haven't had an option for CNG engines in the larger Class 4-6 truck applications.

"Truck OEMs have asked for an engine with the performance of our 8.8-Liter CNG engine and we'll be delivering later this year," Winemaster added.

The engine comes with Quantum's Q-Lite carbon composite natural gas storage systems that allow the companies to provide integrated CNG drive systems to medium-duty truck manufacturers.
