MBSA Has Secured an Automotive Parts Supply Contract From The Rea Vaya 1b BRT Project

Automobile manufacturer Mercedes-Benz South Africa (MBSA) through its subsidiary, the Sandown Motors dealership, has secured an automotive parts supply contract from the Rea Vaya 1B Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project.

Under the deal, MBSA will supply 134 units of the Euro V-compliant Mercedes-Benz chassis that will be shipped as completely knocked down sets (CKD) from Mercedes-Benz do Brasil which will be assembled at the Mercedes-Benz plant in East London, South Africa.

The 134 chassis units will be compliant to the O 500 M Euro V and O 500 MA Euro V standards, out of which 93 chassis will be used with complete buses and 41 units will be connected to articulated bus bodies.

According to the company, the chassis will be the first Euro V complaint unit to be used in a BRT system in South Africa and all the buses equipped with it will have high-floor and powertrains that are aligned with the design of the Johannesburg BRT system.
