US-based Nu-Tek Food Science has launched its first sodium-reduction product for the consumer market - Salt for Life Sea Salt Blend with 70% Less Sodium.
The new product, which is a replacement for regular salt, will soon be available at select retailers and in the restaurant and foodservice industries.
According to the company, Salt for Life Sea Salt Blend blends all-natural sea salt enriched and potassium in a revolutionary single-crystal process, which eliminates unpleasant off-flavors often encountered in other reduced-sodium options.
It has 70% less sodium than regular table salt and easily incorporates into recipes as a one-to-one exchange for regular salt: the product can be sprinkled or mixed. Salt for Life Sea Salt Blend is allergen free, gluten free, Kosher-certified and Halal-certified.
Nu-Tek Food Science vice-president and chief innovation officer Dr. Sam Rao said that with Salt for Life Sea Salt Blend, the company is bringing its sophisticated sodium-reduction technology to the retail market to help families create great-tasting meals with significantly lower sodium.
"It's a big idea whose time has come, and we're happy to see this product find its place on the consumer's table," Rao added.
Nu-Tek Food Science's president and chief operating officer Don Mower said that for a long time, consumers have had to sacrifice taste to get to a lower-sodium diet.
"Salt for Life Sea Salt Blend has the perfect pair of consumer attributes -- dramatically less sodium and no compromise on taste," Mower added.
Nu-Tek Food Science, a food ingredient company headquartered in Minnetonka, Minnesota, offers products to reduce sodium in food.
