Honda Automobile (Thailand) has opened a THB17.15bn ($465m) production facility at Rojana Industrial Park in Prachinburi province.
The new facility will have capacity to produce 120,000 units per year.
Featuring a 214,000m2 of space, the new auto plant will deliver products for Thai and global customers.
The facility features new production technologies, including world's first assembly revolution cell (ARC) line.
ARC is said to integrate flowing cell production-style production units in the main line, which will increase production by 10% compared to conventional line.
It also features other modern technologies such as stamping line that is claimed to increase process efficiency by 25%, and welding line that is claimed to increase operating ratio by 40%.
According to the company, the Prachinburi facility commenced mass production with the new Honda Civic in March this year, following the production start for plastic parts, and engine and engine parts in last October.
In the future, the firm is also planning to manufacture sub-compact and compact models at the facility in the future.
Thailand Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak said: "As the automobile industry is a major factor in the development of the Thai economy, I am glad to see Honda is making Thailand a strategic production and export hub with the most advanced and environmentally-responsible technologies."
Honda Motor president, CEO and representative director Takahiro Hachigo said: "Thailand has increased its presence as one of Honda's production hubs by supplying products and components not only for the home market but also for the world including ASEAN nations, which drive our global sales growth."
