Societe Generale Has Named Jean-Luc Parer as The Head of Retail Business

Paris based insurer Societe Generale has named Jean-Luc Parer as the head of its international retail banking division, which also makes him the member of the executive committee of the group.

Jean-Luc Parer succeeds Jean-Louis Mattéi, who has been promoted as advisor for the general management, SocGen said.

In 1973, Jean-Louis Mattéi joined Societe Generale Group and contributed in developing the international retail banking division for over 20 years.

During Mattéi's tenure, the company also forayed into the new markets.

In September 1980, Jean-Luc Parer started his career in Societe Generale's Inspection department and in 1991, he joined Societe Generale corporate & investment banking as deputy head and later on moved to become the head of structured Finance, the insurer added.

Parer was involved in setting up the Global Debt and Financing Business in 2001, supervised the bank's Debt Capital Markets activities in 2003 and served as Deputy Global Head for the activities in 2005.

Prior to being appointed as special advisor to the Group's International Retail Banking business in 2012, he became head of the Capital markets and Financing division in 2007 and later served as head of the Global Finance division in 2009.
