Unilin’s Flooring division, which is owned by the US flooring group Mohawk Industries, intends to close two mills in Trelleborg and Perstorp, Sweden that are part of Pergo Europe. Treaters in Perstorp and a laminate flooring mill in Trelleborg, which includes CPL production, bonding and profiling activities, are to cease operations as soon as possible. The Trelleborg site is also home to a logistics warehouse that serves markets in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland. This warehouse is to remain open after the planned sale of production assets. In addition, more jobs are to be saved in sales and service. Paul de Cock, the CEO of Unilin’s Flooring division, informed Pergo Europe’s 200 or so employees of the decision to shut down Swedish production activities and the resulting loss of up to 150 jobs on 21 January 2013. Talks with Pergo’s works council and trade unions are to commence soon. The exact date when the two mills will close is to be decided during these negotiations.
