An Underused Area of London's South Bank Is Being Transformed Into an Interactive Space

An underused area of London's South Bank is being transformed into an interactive space by Jason Bruges Studio as part of the celebrations for the London Festival of the World.

The studio has been commissioned by Havells-Sylvania to create a'21st Century Light Space Modulator'under Hungerford Bridge.

Using a kit of parts from the manufacturer to create the installation,Bruges said it will be a blend of Eastern and Western influences and fully interactive.

"Our installation explores not just the relationship between space and light but also people's behaviour within a space. It introduces a performative process in which the installation engages with the audience, transforming the space with lighting based on how people respond to it",explained Jason Bruges.

The installation will pay homage to LászlóMaholy-Nagy's work, the'Light Prop for an Electric Stage'.Created in 1930,and more commonly known as the'Light Space Modulator',it was a light art and moving sculpture piece.

Public showings and seminars will also be taking place over summer and Bruges is calling on other artists and lighting designers to provide input into the design.More details about the project can be found here.
