Zachary Confections Is Voluntarily Recalling Zachary Chocolate Covered Marshmallow Eggs

US-based food firm Zachary Confections is voluntarily recalling Zachary Chocolate Covered Marshmallow Eggs as they may be contaminated with Salmonella.

The product associated with the recall is 5 oz Zachary Chocolate Covered Marshmallow Egg Crates bearing Case UPC code 1 00 75186 31797 3 and Unit UPC code 0 75186 15797 8; with various Code Dates such as D3245D, D3145E, F3145E, D3245E and Best Buy Date 14 February 2014.

This move comes after the company found the presence of Salmonella in sample drawn from one of the production lots of product, during a routine post-production testing.

The recalled products have been distributed across few retail stores located in Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South. No illnesses have been reported associated with the recall. No other Zachary Confections products are affected by the recall.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled products are advised to destroy or return them to the place of purchase.

Consumption of food contaminated with salmonella may cause salmonellosis, a foodborne illness. Salmonellosis may lead to serious and sometimes deadly infections in young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems.
