The Coca-Cola Company has announced that the company distributed more than 10 billion fully recyclable PlantBottle packages across 24 countries during 2011-12.
The company claims it has done away with the need for the equivalent of more than 200,000 oil barrels since the introduction of the new bottle in 2009.
In September 2012, Coca-Cola announced collaboration with India-based JBF Industries in a bid to continue to accelerate global production of plant-made plastic packaging.
According to the company, JBF will build a new facility in Araraquara, Sao Paulo, Brazil to produce the key ingredient bioglycol, which is used to make PlantBottle packaging.
The achievements were highlighted in the company's ninth annual Sustainability Report and second Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Report for 2011-12.
