German automaker MAN Truck & Bus has secured a contract to supply 200 units of its bus chassis to the Singapore Mass Rapid Transit (SMRT) Buses.
The chassis will be installed in the public transport buses in Singapore, increasing the total MAN fleet of SRMT buses to 400 vehicles.
Current contract is a follow-up order for the chassis and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2013.
The 12m low-floor chassis are claimed to suit the production of buses with step-less floors.
Features of the vehicles, which are powered by the D20 engine that generates an output of 320hp, include air suspension on the front and rear axle, with kneeling function.
According to the company, the environmentally-friendly engine technology based on the continuous control exhaust-gas recirculation (EGR) system saves space and weight, with its especially low fuel consumption being a compelling factor.
